It was my understanding that there may be a psychological component to stuttering, in addition to the neurological causes. I'm 24 now, and I don't remember a time in my life where I didn't have a stutter to some varying degree. From what my parents have told me however, my stutter did not start until I was 6 when I had acute appendicitis. It was only a theory at the time (early 2000s), but a PhD in Speech Pathology confirmed this trauma as the possible trigger. There are not any other known stutters in my family.
