I like the analogy of a sidewalk in winter. Stuttering is like slipping randomly while walking. Usually walking is an unconscious habit. I just do it. But Sometimes when I’m walking i can slip. I can’t really prevent the slips (other than refusing to go outside) but i can change how i react. I can freak out and yell at myself and the sidewalk when i fall “Curse you God!” Or i can just pick myself up and keep going. I’ve learned the latter is easier with stuttering.
