👋Welcome to r/Adult_stuttering - Introduce Yourself and Read First! if you are an adult stutterers like me, you are welcomed with open arms to join Adult Stuttering community so which can learn from each other. I am a 60 year old man who has been a stutterer since childhood and am still unchanged. Assurances that as grow up this problem will either disappear or be alleviated drastically have not materialised. I still stammer as badly as I did when I was a child. As you may well imagine, this problem lowers your self-esteem. The inability to communicate articulately in public makes me feel belittled. I cannot engage in any form of public debate and even in normal conversations with friends, I find myself wanting inexpressibity much to my embarassment. There is nothing more frustrating and galling than to find that you cannot freely give vent to what it is on your mind. Attempting to may expose your problem. This has forced me to be taciturn against my nature. I am a fairly well educated man, extensively well-read across a myriad of disciplines, excluding my profession as an IT hardware/software engineer. In my quest for a solution to this scourge, l have developed into a medical delittante having read and gobbled staggering volumes of medical reading materials - books, scholarly serials, research studies etc. I have also consulted with numerous specialists in the field including popular neuroscientists, speech therapists, brain surgeons and endocrinologists, to name a few. Sad to say, in spite of all these efforts, I haven't noticed any significant improvement in my situation. But somehow or the other, I believe that there might still be people out there who are acquainted with the modern advances made in adult speech therapy. To such people, it would be greatly appreciated if they can answer an invitation to join this fledgling Community to enlighten the forum with their golden expertise. Not least, I also reach out to stutterers like myself to join the group so we can benefit together and cross-pollinate our experiences.
