You can isngune how hard, confusing, and frustrating it must be for him. He's probably already seeing agitation from other so seeing it from his parents too, who should be a safe place for him must be hard and could add to negative stigma. I would talk about his feelings regarding it and let him know he doesn't have to push and can take all the time he needs.
