Stuttering and substance abuse Any studies on these two things having any correlation? 20 years old. Been stuttering my whole life. Discovered at the age of 17 - oh hey - when i'm drunk I don't stutter as much. So I tend to get hammered at social events just so I can hold a conversation. Also made that discovery with xanax, and that has fucked up my life even more. I'm honestly surprised i'm not dead yet due to respiratory depression due to my blacked out nights drinking on xanax. Had a presentation for college and I had to drink a few beers beforehand just so I wouldn't look like an idiot in front of everyone. Got a job at target and I can't even communicate on the fucking walkie's correctly. None of my family stutters, what the hell caused this? This stuttering shit will be the death of me I swear. I know I can't continue like this, I don't know what to do.
