Hey 👋 I bought the Fluencypod a while ago so worth sharing my perspective on your comment. I also noticed you mentioned that you own Casa Futura Tech, so with respect your post does come across a bit biased. You didn’t really mention any of the potential positives of something like FluencyPod either, such as the fact that it’s very discreet and wearable, which for a lot of people is a big factor. As I bought the fluency pod, I thought it would be worth sharing with you my perspective on your comments: About your price point comment, I had a look at your Casa Futura website out of curiosity and I noticed that your SmallTalk is more expensive than the fluencypod? It says $3995? With respect, I’m genuinely curious why someone would choose to pay for that over a good DAF app like DAF Pro which is $5 I think? the main reason I’d pay for a device like fluencypod which is 3k (I’m actually paying about $100 a month in instalments) is because it’s small and discreet. Whereas your small talk looks like a large over the ear bluetooth earpiece which is connected the box which controls the settings I believe? Which does not seem practical when using it in public. Again I am genuinely curious why it is big headphones and not a small device? Is it because it is just for educational or therapy situations? Am I missing something? I had a look on their site after seeing your comment about studies. The studies they are referencing are delayed auditory feedback studies, of which their device has implemented. So I don’t think anything wrong on that front As someone who uses the fluencypod, it doesn’t block your hearing the way that comment suggests. The device isn’t blasting environmental noise into your ear, it’s mainly picking up your own voice and feeding it back with a delay, and the volume is adjustable just like normal earbuds About the delay time, I also have quite a severe stutter, and when I first experimented with DAF I tried the DAF Pro app and started high at about 200 ms because I had read about slower speech results. For me it didn’t help much. What actually worked best was somewhere between between 50 and 100 ms, which let me speak more naturally rather than forcing very slow speech. I’ve had a quick look at the research as well and it seems that shorter delays under 100 ms are commonly reported to improve fluency. [This page](https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0094730X06000301?) said “Recent research has employed much shorter delay times, for example 50 ms, which are barely perceptible to the listener and research has found that speakers can maintain fast speech rates under these short delays (Kalinowski, Stuart, Sark, & Armson, 1996; Sparks, Grant, Millay, Walker-Baston, & Hynan, 2002).” Different people respond differently of course, but from both my own experience that works well :) About your frequency comment, I’m not an audio engineer, but from what I’ve read the DAF effect mainly comes from hearing a delayed version of your own speech, rather than needing perfect reproduction of the fundamental vocal fold frequency. For example, phone calls cut a lot of low frequencies (often below ~300 Hz) and you can still clearly hear your voice, and DAF apps still seem to produce the same effect. So I dont think reproducing ~125 Hz precisely is actually necessary for the DAF effect to work in practice. About your binaural point, I remember asking them about that when I was considering buying one. Actually they mentioned that if someone prefers binaural you can actually get a second unit for the other ear for a bit more (I don’t remember the exact price. But I remember it wasn’t much more). I ended up sticking with one because when testing the apps with 1 and 2 earbuds, there was no difference for me I just wanted to end by saying the reason i’ve spent a good 20 minutes (😅) writing this response is because I am genuinely thankful to Speak for less. My partner and I spoke to them on the phone a couple of times before we bought it and they were so nice and considerate. They seem to genuinely care about the customers and made it clear to see it as a tool which can benefit me. It’s been almost a year now and I can honestly say its had such a positive impact for me
