Well it definitely seems like there's a genetic component as well as environmental triggers for it. I don't think it's a learned behavior, and due to the mental health issues that come along with the stigma, I don't think it's productive to think of it as some behavior that potentially has fault. I'd believe that it's possible to train yourself to work around the impediment. I also believe it will never go away for some people. There's ways to cope with that. :)
