Huh. I normally just ask if I'm cold. I chuckle and usually tell them what stuttering is. Whenever someone gives "advice", I just say "I've been hearing that for XX years, believe me, I know what the strategies are." Remember: they're only trying to help. If they're uninformed, inform them. They'll only continue in ignorance if you don't tell them how it was rude.
