What a great question. Yes, I think I would prefer it, because their transparency would create an opportunity for them to showcase it in a positive light if they chose to do so. I feel like it's my job to facilitate a conversation that brings the best out of a candidate and if there is an aspect of themselves that may be seen as a disadvantage by a recruiter or someone else down the line, like disfluency in their speech, I want them to be able to have some control in how that trait is considered. Speaking personally, I value vulnerability and transparency and would think very highly of a candidate who is open about their stutter. I want everyone who has an interaction with me to leave feeling good about themselves regardless of how they scored in the interview, and that includes people who stutter! It sounds like many of those commenting have had negative experiences during interviews. I would love to be able to model the compassion that everyone should show your community.
