Does anyone else have an "optimal speaking rhythm"?

Does anyone else have an "optimal speaking rhythm"? When I was younger, my mom used to tell me to try tapping my thigh if I started stuttering. It didn't make sense to me then, but after speech therapy and learning about continuous phonation, keeping a steady beat as I speak makes more sense. I noticed I'd only try to find a rhythm AFTER I stuttered or blocked, so I wanted to test out speaking all the time with a determined rhythm. So, I downloaded a vibrating metronome app, turned it on in my pocket, and tested it out while ordering at Chipotle (I always order online because I HATE having to talk at Chipotle, Subway, etc. Had a bad and embarrassing stuttering experience at Subway when I was a kid; I've stuttered the worst at places like that every since.) The steady beat seemed to work! Maybe it was the placebo affect - I'm not entirely sure. However, I got a phone call later (talking on the phone is very difficult for me), and to my surprise, I stuttered far less than I usually do. I noticed my internal speaking rhythm steadying, and I was able to flow through sentences evenly. This is my first time trying this, so I'm going to keep trying it and see if I can determine my best "speaking speed"; 170-180 BPM felt the most natural and I had the least amount of blocks at that speed. I also noticed when I would get excited and speed up, I'd get a hard block - then my rhythm would obviously drop; I'd stutter even more at a slower rhythm because I had more time to subconsciously build up a block for the next word. TL;DR: I have an optimal "speaking speed" that I was previously unaware of. Paired with a metronome, I may be able to perfect it. I'm going to try it out on the phone and at restaurants while ordering.
