Talking to people is almost essential. I have to be able to discuss and present my work to colleagues and managers but I have never been good at that. You are right that I am holding myself back though. To be honest, I don't enjoy the actual work either so my problems are probably due to my own confidence issues and the job not being a good fit for me.
