Teaching is much more than talking and communicating. We have to be patient, empathetic, caring, and above all be a good listener. I think most stutterers are great at these things given our own personal struggles. Could teaching be a challenge with a stutter, for sure. Does stuttering mean you’re incompetent and unable to be a teacher? Absolutely not. I am a stutterer and have been a speech therapist for almost 7 years now. Do I stutter everyday? Yes. Has that kept me from making a meaningful impact on my students/patients? HELL NO! Forget what your teacher said, NEVER put yourself into a box or limit yourself because of your stutter. You can be anything you want to be, don’t just be what you “think” you can be. If you want it, chase it, fck everyone else.
