Speech therapy is laden with therapists who don't know anything about stuttering. Half of graduate slp programs only spend one class on "fluency" (stuttering). Many programs don't have a single lesson on it. SLPs routinely rate stuttering as the area they feel least confident. It is a very complex disorder that is different from other speech disorders that have more tried and true treatments that can work for most people. How many of us have gone to terrible SLPs in the past who didn't help and in some cases hurt because they didn't know what they were doing? They all had their CCC-SLP too. I don't know this SLP so I cannot speak to on her credentials, what I can say is I've seen this kind of stuff from many SLP and most of the time they read it from a book that is outdated and don't understand the real problem of stuttering.
