Yes, but I have tried a couple of times, when I tell the other person to randomly stop saying a word that we are repeating together, and as long as I think he is going to say that, I'll never stutter. So here, I don't hear anything but it still has the same effect. So it's not the act of hearing, but the anticipation of hearing for me if that makes sense.
