I’ve been a life long stutterer however I noticed my triggers in childhood stemmed from my overbearing mother and twin sister who would always talk over or interrupt me. I was always shy but became interested in film and acting around 10. My supportive aunt put me in acting classes and honestly, HUGE game changer for me. It taught me to think before I speak, articulate words better in our society (our vs are) and improv helped me to feel comfortable to speak out loud and let my guard down. In my twenties I’d force myself to speak at conferences to help hone my public speaking skills…not saying that’s for everyone but I had a unique job/position at one point so it made it less overwhelming. I still slip up here and there but I’ve found it’s when I get super excited about something and fumble over what I’m trying to get out lol. I still have to tell myself to slow down when I talk…I’d be a great auctioneer 🤣 not sure if this is helpful for anyone. So many folks have a stutter out there and I honestly love when I run into someone who has one as I know what it’s like but always awkward to acknowledge it 😔
