I do the same thing. We are still required to wear masks at doctor’s offices and it kind of helps hide my odd mouth movements when trying to prepare to say something difficult. It helps when I say “my first name is ___” and it worked for a couple of years but now I panic right before my name comes out. Also, I found it’s almost easier to check myself in because I can just blurt out my name as soon as I get to the counter and not give myself time to panic. Versus when I have to wait for them to ask, like at my son’s doctor, and the anticipation of saying my name gets to me.
