Lol. You obviously don't understand what the programme is about if you are asking these questions. Why don't speech therapists treat using McGuire? This sentence is void. The McGuire Programme is run by people with a stutter for people with a stutter. The whole concept of the McGuire Programme revolves around sharing experience and learning a way of speaking and breathing from experienced trainers, that stutter themselves and have been taught by other experience trainers as well as have undergone rigorous training to be able to teach others. Most speech therapists don't stutter and the methods they teach are antiquated and useless - that's why there are tens of thousands of McGuire Programme members, most of whom have tried speech therapy and failed. Speech therapists wouldn't know where to start when it comes to the McGuire Programme, unless they stutter as well and are members of the programme - in that case they wouldn't be "using" McGuire treat there patients, because McGuire Programme is not just a bunch of physical tools for stuttering, its a combination of physical and psychological teachings with a massive support network, which single speech therapist are never able to offer. In fact they legally and practically can't offer to "use McGuire" for their patients, because they are not trained as McGuire trainers are and they obviously can't just assign support resources of the programme to their clients. If they referred every client of theirs to the McGuire Programme, there would be a lot less people with a stutter in the world and a lot less clients and profit for speech therapists. Also, don't get me wrong, I am not bashing on speech therapists, they have their purpose, especially for children and other disfluency conditions as well as for eating and swallowing disorders. They just should not be treating adults with a stutter. This causes more harm then good.. Because those adults may feel any stuttering treatment is a failure if the speech therapists can't even help, and won't even attempt the universal program that has helped so so many pws. Why doesn't any respectable stuttering organisation talk about the McGuire Programme? McGuire is one of the most reputable organisation in the world when it comes to stuttering. And yes all other collectives, such as the NSA in US, Speakeasy in Australia, all talk about the programme and in fact have plenty of McGuire members in them. Any organization that is based from a collective of speech therapists have no credibility. The whole point of the programme is that it is NOT traditional speech therapy. So yes, if you do know people from the program, maybe you should actually bother asking them what it's about, as obviously from your condescending statement, , you have no clue.
