My Dad has had a stutter since he was able to speak. You wouldn't be able to tell talking to him now though as he has worked words with sounds he has trouble with (the only one I know of is "r" - he uses the word "correct" instead of "right") out of his vocal vocabulary. He was adopted but has no contact with any of his biological family. I've stuttered since I can remember (22/f). My twin brother has never had a stutter. Like others have mentioned I often wonder if I have children will I pass it along to them; I assume it's likely. My dad wasn't ever open to talking about our stutters, he wasn't really open to talking about much. That being said - I don't harbor any resentment towards him because he passed it along to me, I've always looked at it as something special we shared.
