I did some speak therapy a while back and they taught me to tell people I stutter. Initially I thought the idea absurd, I felt like I was in therapy so people wouldn't notice my stutter. I gave it a few honest tries and now I'm a fan. It relieves a lot of the stress I feel when I talk to people. I used to be so focused on hiding my stutter 100%, and it never worked for long. I no longer have to worry that people think I have brain damage or something, and now that my stress level is lower I speak better. When I tell people it usually stop at the first sign of trouble and say something like "excuse me, I've got a bit of a stutter and it may take me an extra second to get this out." I feel that if I put a lot of personality into the line it goes well.
