I went to HCRI back in 2010, I was 23 at the time and I've had a mild stutter my whole life. I found that the most valuable part of the session was getting to know 7 other stutterers. I had never met another stutterer my whole life, so getting the chance to get to know these people and hear their stories was a rewarding and enlightening experience. The therapy itself it similar to other therapy programs that try to get you to relearn how to breath/talk. When you are there for 14 days you see big improvements, like you do with most treatments. However, it's all about keeping up with this new style of talking/breathing when you return home/to your job. I personally am not a fan of the programs that make you change/relearn how you breath/talk, for weeks I tried to keep it up after treatment but it still felt unnatural, I felt like I wasn't being myself. I eventually over the next few months reverted back to my old ways. I think the key to success in this program is the same for almost every other program. You have to be willing to take it seriously and practice it everyday for the rest of your life, with the hope that it will eventually become second nature and not require the constant effort to keep up the techniques. I think those with more severe stutters would benefit more from this therapy than those more mild stutterers. When it comes down to if I would recommend the program to another stutterer, I can't say I would or I wouldn't. It depends on how committed you will be do making an effort to practice these new techniques every day. In the end, I am glad I went, I still stutter, but the experience helped me understand and accept my stutter while getting the chance to hear others stories and realize that others are dealing with the same issues and are able to live normal lives and still accomplish great things. Hope this was somewhat helpful in your decision, feel free to ask any specific questions you may have.
