Parents of children who stutter: did the Lidcombe Program help? Hi everyone, I’m the mom of a 3.5-year-old girl who has been stuttering since she was about two. It appeared very suddenly and has come and gone in phases ever since. Sometimes it almost disappears and she speaks very fluently, then it comes back again. Because of that pattern, we hesitated for a long time about consulting. The few professionals we spoke to along the way mostly told us it was probably developmental. We might also have been a bit in denial, hoping it would pass. Yesterday we finally saw a speech therapist who confirmed that it’s true stuttering and not just a developmental phase. We’re going to start the Lidcombe Program. I would really appreciate hearing from other parents who’ve been through this. Did Lidcombe help your child? How did things evolve over time? Any experiences — positive or not — would mean a lot. Thank you.
