Hey parent. I have a stutterer too! We have no family history though. My son started showing signs of stuttering at around 3. He is now 14. My son is one of the most popular kid in his school. He is very extroverted. We never made his speech an issue, ever. He knows he stutters but that does not bother him at all. He goes to speech therapy in school. I heavily advocated for my child when he needed it. He does not need me now as he stands up for himself. Acceptance, telling your child he may have a slightly different way he talks but he can still achieve anything in life. Always stand behind him and if you need fight for him. Tell him we all go through things in life but that doesn’t define us. My son is one of the top students in his class. I did request accommodation for his speech. He wants to be a surgeon one day! I cried a lot in beginning for him but I am over that and everyday I see my son being successful.
