I've dipped my toes into Buddhism and use the site [AudioDharma.org](http://www.audiodharma.org/). Gil Fronsdal is my favourite teacher but they're all great. Recently I've been using [this guided meditation](http://www.audiodharma.org/talks/audio_player/4013.html). Know that you don't have to sit for the whole 30+ minutes, put in all the time that you're comfortable with. Some days you'll only manage 5 minutes and some days will be the full recording. As for the fear. Just do it. You won't get anywhere you want in life if you're afraid. Remove the safety net you have under you and just jump into it. Talk to people, don't every apologize when you stutter, your stammer isn't anything you need to be sorry about. Maybe make a note to talk to at least one new person a day. I take the subway to school and make small talk with people sometimes in order to build confidence. If meeting and talking to people is something you really want to do then go do it! Sorry for the quasi-motivational talk but I'm a strict believer in doing what is absolutely necessary in order to be happy and successful. [This article by Mark Twight](http://www.gymjones.com/knowledge/article/twitching/) is my favourite thing on the internet, I found it a year ago and copied it out into my journal and read it often. It keeps me focused.
