I disagree with your disagreement. I’m 32 and I let my stutter dictate almost every aspect of my life. Job, relationships, activities, heck even ordering food. Thinking that people care about your stutter is very egocentric. Trust me when I say this. You care more about your stutter than other people do. Yeah you’ll run into a person or two that will judge you for it but those are the assholes in the world and it’s been my experience that they are few and far between. Not caring is totally the answer. You’re right about that. The OP is young and unfortunately this is a lesson we learn too late in life. I wish I could go back to high school with my new found attitude. But the best we can do is try to get the point across that the world doesn’t revolve around 1 person and most people are too caught up in their own stuff that focusing on someone else’s short comings is not the norm. The best thing to do is stutter a little and then explain you’ve got a stutter. I’ve found it to be the best technique to relieve the tension.
