My son who’s 15 now, had a stutter starting at 4 and got speech help in preschool and kindergarten. End of 1st, he made such amazing progress and he stopped speech. He always maintained a little bit of a stutter, but seemed more like all people in general can exhibit time to time. However fast forward to middle school… maybe it was hormones maybe stress of the new, maybe a mixture of it all, the stutter was back big time and it was bad enough he wanted help so we talked to school and he was able to get an IEP end of 6th and is in 9th and still has an IEP where he gets speech at school and it made a world of difference! It gave him tons of tools to use when he is dealing with disfluency moments from whatever may be causing it, and he actually does so well utilizing those strategies he’s been taught. He’s doing so great in fact, that his speech therapist suggested he only have speech 1x per month and we can always go back to more. But I would say it’s def made a difference for him and I would recommend anyone get that same help if they are dealing with this similar issue because I’ve seen how it can help.
