Maybe this is the most basic and well known of techniques to (sort of) reduce stuttering... We have this special superpower of predicting the future in real time. We know, sentences ahead, when we’ll stutter while speaking. We know the word we’ll stutter on and even the specific sound within the word that we’ll stutter on. This might already be a thing, but I came up with a little trick to curb that... I tend to use, what I like to call, “buffer words” before saying something I know I’ll mess up on to lessen the likelihood of stuttering. For example, if I want to ask someone “whats up?” but I know I’ll fuck up on the “w” sound, I add “hey” (this would be the “buffer word”) in front of it so it’ll ease my way into the “w” sound. So instead of struggling with “whats up?” I say “hey whats up?” It’s already a normal thing to say, it doesn’t change the meaning of what you originally wanted to say, and most importantly, the other person will be oblivious to the change.
