How can I better support my son?

How can I better support my son? My almost 6yo son has had a stutter on and off for 2 years and right now it's the worse it's ever been. He has always had speech issues, suspected appraxia. He's made such great improvements with speech but the stuttering seems to be staying now. It breaks my heart when he just gives up saying something. The other day he said he never wants to talk again. We are always patient with him and so is his sister. I worry about school starting again, we homeschool but he goes in one day a week to a charter school. Does anyone have any advice for a parent?
