I never said I wanted to stop his stuttering. I asked for insight into the mindset of a stutter w.r.t to something but I wanted to know if my response to ho, was helpful or not to him. Y’all truly nitpick language to the extreme but just the idea of anyone saying recovering fluency is possible appears to be aggravating to this sub. Disappointing. HE was sick of his stutter and wanted it to stop. I would assume anyone in the same position would want the same - it’s extremely distressing for the body and psyche to not be able to get a single word out without stuttering over every single syllable in the word 10 times. (You think Im exaggerating this but Im not. It was actually that severe). Reality is no amount of coddling or ignoring or saying it’s ok, don’t worry about it from others will change the fact that for anyone experiencing such a debilitating level of stutter - they themselves want it gone. To tell someone like that, hey it’s ok, you just need to accept yourself is not only useless but a great way to frustrate them and alienate yourself from them in the process. Also to be clear, it was not a simple matter of changing around 2 factors in his life. It took 3 years of changing and restructuring the environment around him, including ourselves, to help him recover. You simply do not have enough information to make any kind of valid statement about our lived experiences much less negate our reality. Everyone is vastly different and do not respond or experience stimuli in the same manner. To pigeon hole anyone’s experience is just ludicrous.
