It's a deeper issue connected with capitalism imo And can be applied to other (basic) health facilities, imo. Everything we do in this paradigm is ruled by making money. So they have to make money in a society where if they don't, people literally die due to starvation (at least here in Pakistan). As to why they choose the profession, I really don't know. Some might have good intentions to help ppl then just become a cog in the system. Note: This is not advise to stop going to a speech therapist if it is working for you.
