You can get more air in through your mouth yeah, but something to do with the air going in through your nose triggers something in your lungs to make your alveoli more capable of transferring oxygen, so you get way more oxygen out of each breath than if you breathe through your nose. Feels weird and uncomfortable at first, and hard to do when your panting, but after a while breathing through your mouth doesn't feel like its helping when you're tired
