If your dad stutters then you are genetically predisposed to stuttering too. There’s no single “stuttering gene”. It’s polygenic, meaning they result from the interaction of multiple genes (research has identified up to 48 associated genes) along with environmental factors. Trauma can certainly activate those genes in early childhood development.
