When I first got to college, I was freaked out by how big it was (Pitt). I thought I had made a huge mistake. But then I joined the student newspaper. Over the course of one or two days, I just went up to people and introduced myself, stuttering-be-damned. I got through it in a few moments, and the friendships are still going more than 15 years later. I think it's that initial contact that's so hard. Then you'll realize that people probably don't care ... as much as we think they do.
