Some people find it hard to keep up with the practice after the program to maintain improved fluency. You have to do daily exercises. Most are helped dramatically in the program, but not everyone is able to maintain that improvement in real life. So.....another commenter says "worst case it's useless & you're no worse off than you were." Well, yes and no. It's actually worse if it helps for a while, everyone thinks you're "cured" (of course, you're not cured), and then you find you cannot maintain the techniques. I've heard many people talk about that, how devastating it feels, how they blame themselves, how they feel like they've let people down (especially parents). There is a lot of debate about all this. Why are many people unable to really integrate the techniques taught in these intensive programs? Is it because they are not "trying hard enough," not "putting the work in?" Or is it something else? Is it just too hard, not reasonable to expect most people to be able to maintain the new way of speaking? Some would argue that it's so unnatural, that, in fact, it's not reasonable to expect people to be able to do it. On the other hand, for some people, programs like HCRI have changed their lives. Long term. Personally, I don't think the percentage is as big as Hollins would like you to think. But that doesn't mean it shouldn't be tried. I know this isn't the enthusiastic answer you were probably hoping for. But it's not so simple. No one can tell you what your experience will be. Even if there were hard statistics on how successful Hollins is, statistics never apply to any individual. If it were me, I think I'd find it hard to pass up the opportunity. It would probably feel like a missed opportunity. But.....I do think you should know that a lot of people go thru various intensive programs and are not able to maintain the gains they have at the end of the program. Not that that will really make it any easier if it went that way for you? But still, you should know.
