I stutter and also I had two kids, only my daughter stutters, not my son. I am going to try to be brief on this to give you another perspective. My daughter is a mild stutterer since she first started talking at the age of 2yrs old and continued off/on, she still stutters today at the age of 18, still a mild stutterer. Let me tell you what I did in my daughter's case. 1. **Don't make a big deal about stuttering** - Stuttering runs in my family, multiple people in my extended family stutters. I must have genetically passed it to my daughter since I stutter also and I have cousins that also stutter. Speech therapy through the American public school system (12 years of it) never worked for me. I ended up hating all the speech therapists I had and hated going to therapy. So for my daughter, i purposely never put her into speech therapy since there is no cure and more importantly, i didn't want to highlight or emphasize her stuttering condition. 2. **Reinforce the idea that It is okay to stutter** - Stuttering doesn't need to be fixed. it is okay to stutter and still live a good life. There are no cures that work 100% on all stutterers, all the time, so chances are your child might be left stuttering even after all the therapy sessions. Teaching kids that it is wrong to stutter will lead them to feel even worse about themselves and build up more anxiety/stress. Find stuttering support groups that will help you and your kid cope. In America, there is the NSA (National Stuttering Association) [westutter.org](http://westutter.org) , I am strong believer in acceptance. 3. **Support your child, listen to them, allow them the space and time to talk.** You can be an advocate by educating others around him about stuttering. I am willing to talk/chat more about this if you want, just send me a private message if you want.
