Think about it from her perspective, she seems like someone who rarely encounters people who stutter and actively shows it, so she was probably trying to lighten the mood. Now it probably wasn't the best way to lighten the mood since it was inappropriate (because I'd feel upset and self conscious if she'd done the same for me).
