I mostly agree. I hesitate to call stuttering a disability, mostly because there are some people who have it much, much worse, but it certainly does put us at a disadvantage in life. It sure as hell isn't a benefit! And it clearly, very negatively, impacts quality of life. I'll never be one to make small talk, successfully order at a drive through, speak publicly, spend time on the phone. I also agree certain vocations are closed to us. Things that involve public speaking are right out, as well as lengthy talking with coworkers. But I certainly haven't let it stop me from doing lots of things. I'm married, have kids, a well paying job I absolutely hate, I function more or less like the average fluent person, just far more quietly. There are worse fates, I suppose.
