If possible, you could talk to other kids parents and ask them to tell their kids to talk to your son, so he might get more comfortable around them and start to communicate. Stuttering is not a big deal if you're not afraid to talk to anyone in any situation. I think it's easier for a child to get more comfortable with it as there's less life pressure on him.
