I've had an exorcism performed on me. I was doing a clinical rotation in college when I was paired with a preceptor who was very vocal about her religion. I mean within 5 minutes of meeting her, she it was preaching to me Bible verses while asking me very invasive and unwanted questions about my own beliefs. After about an hour of following her through the hospital, she decides to take me out onto the second floor break area balcony, places her hands on my head, and proceeds to perform and exorcism and tries to pray my stutter away. I'll never forget when she shouted "lord, forgive this abomination before me, and fix his broken tongue with your holy light!" and "begon the demons that break this man's speech!" After fighting in the army with a stutter, it takes a lot to get under my skin, but this was the most insulting and mortifying thing that had ever happened to me. It took all my willpower to just walk away and leave the hospital mid shift. I now use this as a drinking story, and as a way to highlight disability discrimination even amongst the medical field.
