Hi Reddit! Wanted to join the community, the only community that I feel will understand. Hey guys. A bit of background on myself, and why I'm here. I'm a 25yo male, living in Adelaide, Australia. I've dealt with a stutter for as long as I or anyone can remember, which I think is around 12-13yo. I actually cannot pinpoint when my stutter started, but my family and I don't recall any issues before that age, so I chalked it up to high school/the pressures of being the lead in the few dramatic plays we put on. I am, however, one of the lucky ones. I don't know if there's a scale on stuttering, but I would be on the mild side. I can converse pretty well with most people on some days, I just have pretty bad blocking. I have had minimal interactions with stuttering in the past - tv specials, friends, randoms - and wanted to connect with some like-minded individuals. My girlfriend is incredibly supportive, but tbh she doesn't understand - no one can. Family try, and are cool, but all I get is long looks and a suggestion for speech therapy. I have tried it before, but ohhhhhhhh godddd the costttttttt. When I get a job again I'll be looking at moving back into it, but for now, I wanted to chat with some like-minded individuals. Share your stories, tell me where you're from (anyone from Australia what upppp). Had a bit of a hard day and wanted to talk to people that understood.
