I also find that when I block some people (even my SO, or family) say "what?" like I as finished and they didn't hear it and I'd have to start at the beginning. Also usually, for me anyway, hearing someone speak helps me get the word out. So as soon as they say "what?" I get the word out but they didn't hear because they were talking, and I'd have to start over. And I always stutter more when I'm repeating myself. Also, when I'm discussing my stutter or answering a couple curious questions it's far easier for me to speak. And if he has trouble with his name like most do I'd suggest introducing him in a situation where names are involved. Like meeting new people. Or names for a wait list at a restaurant. For me, any time I don't have to say my name is a good time.
