Yeah I'm not sure on the exact science of it either, but it sure as hell feels similar to my stuttering when I struggle to play a note that I know should come next. Like you said, I've tried forcing it out of sheer frustration many times, often without success since for me the remedy is usually to back off from the keys for a few seconds, clear my mind, and start over... Anyway, if anything, you aren't alone in this, remember that.
