I’m also a girl who stutters. Now I’m an older girl who stutters. 78f. I want all of you young girls who stutter to know that your future can, will be bright. Regardless of my mild/moderate stutter, I was married to the most amazing man I’ve ever known for 54 years. This man, initially a Naval jet pilot( bachelor at 29), proudly presented me first within his military officer social circle and later professionally in his career in finance. All this was nice but besides this he was one of the nicest, kindest, man to ever live. In every way I struck gold. My stuttering didn’t prevent my education, although it was my privilege to enjoy the career of mother and homemaker. There was a time when this was a noble endeavor and my husband’s education and careers allowed taking care of and supporting my husband’s and children’s lives. Never settle for less than you deserve. Your speech is only one aspect of you. To have the greatest opportunity to meet the finest life partner ‘fish only in the best ponds’! You’ll find quality companions in quality places. Your career associates, interest groups, educational environments, even shared philosophical associations. I met my wonderful partner at a youth organization where he was the leader. I was a 22-yr old university student, not looking for a life partner but he was too special to pass up. Don’t believe yourself to be less than you are because of your stutter. You deserve the best things in life too. Look in the places where there are quality people. Choose quality friends of all genders. Girlfriends have brothers. Male friends have other worthy male friends. Just don’t settle for less than you deserve.
