I'm 27, have stuttered all my life. I picked up some bad habits to deal with my stutter (like swearing a LOT, for some reason, swearing helps get past it), though something that helped me actually work past it was reading. When I was in high school, someone mentioned the idea that reading poetry out loud helped someone else they knew, but being an edgy teenage guy I thought that sounded lame. Eventually though I did start reading both poetry but just a lot of fiction out loud to myself, and sure as shit it has helped me like crazy. It never went away, stuttering in genetic in my family, but it's improved significantly.
