Ya GOTTA make jokes about it. Your speech impediment needs to be something you can laugh at (instead of something you’re ashamed of and/or trying to hide). I learned to /own/ my stutter by introducing myself (“Hi, I’m J-J-Jer”) and make my audience aware of my stutter (“I have a stutter, so if you need me to repeat anything, I’d be more than happy to.”). If you mention your speech impediment, it gives YOU the power. You aren’t trying to hide it... you OWN it!
