Has anyone lost a job for not talking?

Has anyone lost a job for not talking? My stammer has always kept me quiet. My job now is somewhat social so I work with people a lot, give presentations, chit chat with coworkers, etc. But the whole thing is very stressful. I rarely speak up and never have much to say so I feel like I am not fitting in. I might quit or get fired for poor performance. I'm thinking of getting a job in computer programming/software development. That sounds like a career where I can be alone and in the zone for the most of the day.
