I dont think you should over do it but having a job and getting some experience working with/around people is good. You can just start slow if you'd like. I worked at a drug store in high school, stocking shelves and whatnot. I mostly spoke to my coworkers and occasionally to customers who looked lost, but a lot of it was at my discretion. Being a bus boy at a restaurant could also work. I recommend looking and trying something though. It's definitely better than not working. And telling you might not make much impact but it really is interesting how little your coworkers and bosses care that you stutter. Feels weird at first. You do the job and that's really all they care about.
