1. She’s very well aware that she’s stuttering. In fact we sometimes know we’re going to stutter even before we say the words. The “trance” you’re seeing is a physical blockage - like your face or mouth is frozen and you just can’t get the words out. She’s fully aware of what’s happening, she just can’t unblock herself. 2. This *depends*. I’m commenting mostly because of this question - it’s widely discussed in the stuttering community that you should never finish someone’s sentence. But quite a number of us actually find it a *relief*, and I’m one of them. Once you’ve established a trusting personal connection, you absolutely can ask. If she prefers that too, it might save everyone a lot of awkward seconds. 3. It’s kind of standard in the community not to mention it, hoping others will see beyond that and like us for who we are, not how we speak. I’ve even been upfront about my stutter (and I’m over 40), but I’m blessed to have a fairly mild form. You seem like a very nice person for asking respectful, genuine questions. Good luck with your new friend! We’re absolutely the same as everyone else - just with a bit of an odd way of talking :)
