My friend, I want to say something clearly: stuttering did not destroy your worth, your intelligence, or your potential. It wounded your confidence, but confidence can be rebuilt. Many people who stutter go through exactly what you’re describing: not just speech difficulty, but identity injury. The shame, avoidance, and missed opportunities hurt us deeply. What you’re feeling is real, and recoverable. Stuttering is something you do, NOT something you are. Your brain, personality, creativity, kindness, work ethic… none of those are reduced by stuttering. The world often overvalues smooth speech, but fluency is not the same as competence or strength! We need to stop measuring our worth by our fluency. Our value comes from: - Our resilience - Our persistence despite difficulty - Our willingness to keep engaging with the world Most fluent people never develop that level of psychological strength!
