How to support someone who speaks with a stutter? Hi all, I've been dating someone for a couple of months who speaks with a stutter. I've been in situations with him where he's been mocked/laughed at and now he's starting to reach out to me via text after difficult social outings when he's feeling bad. Immediately after being mocked, I asked how I could support him and it was actually kind of shocking to me when he told me he'd never had an adult advocate for him in a scenario like that (ie I was tempted to call the other person out and say "that wasn't very nice, he has a stutter"). He said if I wanted to say something that he wouldn't mind, but I also don't want to speak for him. I feel so bad that he has to deal with the same things every time he is in social outings and all I want to do is help and make him feel better but I don't know the right things to say. It must be so exhausting to be judged in this way constantly. What are some things that I can do or say to show my support? He has expressed that he appreciates physical touch in these times and also feels good when people say they have his back. I'm just curious if people have other ideas as well or experiences they can share. It's hard to find resources on how to be an ally! Thank you <3
