I'm 32 and last year for the first time I tried speech therapy. First I tried it privately, where the going rate was $100/hr. I wasn't convinced after that first session that it was going to be worth it. So I put my name on the waiting list for speech therapy in the public system (I'm in Canada) and had to wait about 4 months but it was free so that's always a bonus. The trouble with speech therapy for me was that my speech pathologist didn't really hear me stutter! When I'm with strangers I don't often stutter. I did record myself stuttering so she'd understand how my stutter was. She had me work on a few strategies, mostly light touches and exhalations before speaking. I think it helped with my confidence but overall it didn't reduce my stuttering, but gave me tools to manage it and feel better about myself.
